What's New

On Friday, July 4, 2008 a group of 6 WBSSSP volunteers
spent a half day mapping a 5-mile kayak trail north and west of the
proposed state park kayak entrance. The trail travels from Salt
Springs Run past the EMC west into the Gulf, following the mangrove
shore as it turns north until the first inlet, then turns east along
the Westport channel to a large open water area surrounded by needle
rush approximately 2.5 miles from the entry point. Seen along the
route were osprey, herons, egrets, sting rays and mullet. Those
participating in the GPS trail building activity included CSO and
park volunteer members Jan Howie, Sharon Holding, Susan Vaughn, Fleet
Mullinax, Ruth Barrie and new volunteer Autumn Brown. Special thanks
to WBSSSP ranger Gorgon O'Connor for her help with kayaks and
logistics. Susan Vaughn reporting.

The "mappers"  set out.

Sun protection is a must.

GPS-ing the trail

And the scenery wasn't bad either.

May 17th   -  Sunset Paddle

Twenty four members of the Salt Springs Paddlers set out from Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park for a sunset paddle to Durney Key.

The tide was a little low but all were able to paddle.

The kayak convoy gets underway.

They've made it!  But where?

The proof is in the signage.  Destination achieved!

All present and accounted for.

And this is why they went.  How beautiful!
