"2nd Annual Salt Springs Classic
 Kayak Race and Fun Paddle"
was held on May 10th, 2008.  Seventeen kayaks entered in one of two categories.  Race winners were 

Over 15 feet - Brent Postma  1st                   
                        Nick Makris      2nd
                        Peter Russo     3rd   

15 feet and Under -  Mark Buga      1st
                                   Tom Ashurst    2nd
                                    Dave Wolcott  3rd

"Sounds at Sunset"
On May 3rd at 6:30 pm at the State Road 52 Entrance to WBSSSP  over 50 people attended a  3.5 mile  (round trip) walk to the salt barrens and salt marsh.  Evening birds like the Common Nighthawk, Clapper Rail and the elusive Black Rail were heard. The walk was followed by campfire in the Park enjoyed by all.
 
Salt Springs Alliance General Meeting  March 29, 2008 
Over 60 people attended the SSA General Meeting Breakfast at WBSSSP.  The event began with a walk through the park led by Ken Tracey, followed by a campfire breakfast provided by Joe Spooner and crew.  Special guest speaker was Carol Imbriani, Park Programs Development Specialist.  Rounding out the morning was the first meeting of the newly formed Salt Spring Paddlers kayak club led by Doug Cassidy.

Springs Awareness Day    March 22, 2008
It was all about the water at Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park.  Over 120 people turned out to take a look at the Salt Springs and exhibits form Pasco Schools, SWFWMD, DEP and others.

Volunteer Appreciation Day  - March 15, 2008 Gamble Plantation State Park

On Saturday, March 15, 2008, representatives from Werner-Boyce Salt Springs Sate Park attended the District 4 Volunteer Appreciation Day.  Tours through the park, volunteer organization displays, music and lunch were enjoyed by All.  
 
Step Up Florida      February 16, 2008
Over 20 canoe and kayaks launched from Old Post Road in the Park to enjoy a quiet morning on the water.  The paddle included a visit to the salt springs where clear water allowed a glimpse of the spring bottom 300+ feet below.

At the same time, over 60 hikers turned out for a 3 to 4 mile walk through the salt marsh at the ST. Rd. 52 Park entrance.
